Soil Science International is the manufacturer of SS-13 PERMEABILITY CONTROL EMULSION. Developed and proven over 35 years ago, SS-13 treated and compacted soil liners provide an excellent solution to permeability control and overall soil stabilization.

The use of properly prepared soil liners for liquid and solid containment basins provides significant advantages over alternate types of liners. Most important, perhaps, is that soil membrane liners improve with time and, unlike rigid membrane liners, are not subject to mechanical damage. SS-13 soil additives are used to prevent the invasion of stored hazardous wastes by surface water and the intrusion of contaminated liquids into ground water as well as for the retention of water in reservoirs and ponding areas.

Construction of SS-13 treated and compacted soil liners is usually done on site with conventional earth moving equipment.

SS-13 soil additive is a concentrated dispersion of polymers and modifiers emulsified in water. This additive readily attaches itself to soil particles, closing the voids to prevent passage of liquids through the soil. WA-13 soil additive is a wetting agent used in conjunction with SS-13 to stabilize and compact otherwise unstable and expansive soils. Together, SS-13/WA-13 treatment permits the soil to achieve much higher densities that the same untreated soil. Not only does the higher density reduce permeability, but it also increases load bearing capacity and shear strength.
